Easter Matches Report
Crickhowell Tennis Club youngsters excel
Crickhowell Tennis Club junior and mini teams produced an excellent batch of results over the Easter holidays.
The Crickhowell under-14 boys’ team took on local rivals Abergavenny at Crickhowell, and both teams produced some excellent tennis in a closely-fought contest. The event was eventually decided on a tie-break, which was won by Crickhowell’s top pair of Finnian Bult and Jay Sinnadurai as the home team ran out narrow winners by 5 matches to 4.
In the afternoon, Crickhowell’s mini tennis Red, Orange and Green squads played at Abergavenny and, again, the standard of tennis for these younger age groups was often outstanding, with players from both clubs producing consistently good tennis and some thrilling rallies. Crickhowell’s teams were again victorious on the day, winning narrowly by 9.5 matches to 7.
The Crickhowell mini Reds squad played six matches against Llandovery at the Crickhowell club and, in an event that swung one way and then the other, the teams shared the spoils 3 matches each. The older Crickhowell junior squad also travelled to Brecon over the weekend to take on an experienced Christ College team and produced some fast and accurate hitting to win overall on the day by 9 matches to 5. To round off a busy and successful Easter programme for the club, Crickhowell girls’ squad travelled to Cardiff and beat a strong Radyr team by 4 matches to 2.
Special mention should go to the following players, who remained unbeaten throughout the entire Easter programme: Alex Jones, Ieuan Roberts, Tom Miller, Andrew Thomson, Mike Schofield, Arthur Price and Angus Lewis.
Much credit has to go to Chris Hill, Crickhowell’s head coach, for his hard work and expertise in preparing the club’s younger players so well. The club would also like to thank its sponsor, the Taste Inn Wales group, for its generous financial support for the past three years.
